I've used dxflib [1] (the library used by QCAD) in the past to read dxf files. It would seem that QCAD works best with dxf files. Perhaps you could convert the dwg to dxf and try that with QCAD? If the geometry isn't tesselated, I have little faith it will work flawlessly. I have no experience with pythonCAD for this type of thing. You might also want to look into converting into VRML if you're just viewing the models. I'm curious to hear if you succeed, good luck.
