Start simple. Just get one RH9 pc to connect to the internet via the westell modem.

Modem has been configured. Works when I connect Ethernet port on modem
to W2k pc nic.

Switched cable to linux box- eth0

Ran adsl-setup ("server" option for ISP supplied DNS)

Then
Adsl-start or adsl connect merely hangs

I should see a new "assigned" ip address for eth0,
And A ppp0 interface.

{{{{Phase 2

Install rcfirewall script
Which includes ip masquerading, port forwarding enabled

Then I can reconfigure my other network machines to get "out" via the
linux box

Phase 3

Add DMZ with web server, mail server)))

I'm confused? What are you trying to do?

The setup CD from Verizon is meaningless. All you have to do is put a
router behind the DSL Modem and enter the PPPoE username and password
manually. You can get that info from Verizon over the phone.

Or.... Are you trying to use your linux box as the router and then run
PPPoE on that?

Been away for a awhile.
Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Just got verizon dsl, with westfall 6100 dsl modem.
Ran through setup on my w2k box. All is well.

I would like to do this instead on my RedHat 9 pc (2.4.20-6)
Ran /usr/sbin/adsl-setup. No problem.

However adsl-start or …-connect just hang, though dsl and internet
lights are green.

Suggestions? Roaring-penguin?

Ron, Static or Dynamic IP? The westell modem (2200 supplied By verizon, that i have) has an IP pass-though feature and stores the username and password , does yours? if your runinng static make sure passthough is enabled to the local router, it seems to me that you are trying to authenicate something that is already verified. E-mail me to talk more.
