I would be very interested also. I've done a decent amount of development on Catalyst http://catalyst.perl.org/. As I understand it, there's a bit of RoR inspiration in Catalyst. As far as the local Rails group, make more sense given that there is a local rails group. If people become more interested in Rails, they have local community to get involved in.
