Re: [PLUG] google earth for linux

I am running Kubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) on a Pentium M with 1.5GB
RAM, 5GB swap, ATI Radeon chip with the fglrx half-open/half-closed
driver (which includes a kernel component) and a Comcast cable modem.
I do have the [k]ubuntu wine package installed.

In both cases, it started up fine, and after a few seconds, the only
thing that worked was mouse movements, which had a hand icon and which
allowed me to move it freely. Mouse clicks (left or right button
didn't work). They keyboard didn't work - not even a Ctl-Alt-Bksp or
a Ctl-Atl-Fkey. I was not able to ssh in from another PC.

By the symptoms, I am guessing that it is stuck somewhere in the
kernel - maybe some interaction between wine and the fglrx driver. I
haven't had the time to troubleshoot further.

I made do by shrinking the window to the smallest size allowed, and it worked flawlessly, continuously. I did not load any KML or overlays, but did set placemarks. I'm running RHEL4 (Fermi SL recompile) w/256MB RAM, 2GB swap, 600MHz PIII, SELinux off, nVidia NV17GL w/nvidia proprietary driver, 1.5Mb/s broadband, FWIW.

How did it kill your PC?
