yeah, but someone sitting at a *nixen for the first time in their life would probably be scared out of their seat at the idea of shell scripting. :)

BTW, this is for a LiveCD that's being developed...trying to make a "propaganda" disc. "see? linux isn't so scary after all. silly windows user!"

I'd say that learning shell scripting would be a good next step.  I
recall the book "More UNIX For Dummies" to be helpful in this respect.

Also, I think it would be a good idea to learn either vi or emacs.  As
for *which* one you should learn, that is a hotly debated topic. :-)
