Re: [PLUG] driver needed for installation?

Thanks to those of you who responded to my driver question. It was the SATA controller, which RHEL4 didn't have--which provided the nudge I needed to upgrade.

Brian,
I just tried to install RH AS 4 on a Dell 745 at work
three weeks ago. After much searching on Google and
Dell's site for the driver (my problem was the SATA
driver), I ended-up installing RH EL 5. It's
installer has the correct SATA driver built-in.

I tried the drivers from Dell's website for the 745,
but none worked. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest
version just in case, but it didn't help. I didn't
want to turn the switch on the BIOS to enable legacy
access to the drive since I knew RH 5 had the driver,
but I read through many Google searches that worked
for a bunch of people.

If you have support from Dell, try giving them a call.

Hi,

I wonder if someone could help me with this.

I am trying to install RHEL4 on a new Dell
optiplex 745. (It came with XP
installed, but I am booting with the RH
installation disc and trashing the
XP.) I did not get very far. It read the first
installation disk. I got
past the language choice (English), keyboard (US),
installation method
(local CD ROM). But then I got the following
message:

"No Driver found Unable to find any devices of the type needed for
this installation type
Would you like to manually select driver or use
driver disk."

I have never seen anything like this before in the
many installations I
have
done over the years. what could the driver be
needed for? Have
there been hardware changes in the past 12 months
(since I got the RHEL
discs I am using) that would cause this?

I would be grateful for any ideas.
