That's true, but you can't have httpd use multiple certificates with mod_ssl on the same port, even if you setup different VirtualHost directives. You could setup various ssl virtualhosts to listen on different ports (i.e. app1.hostname.com gets 443 and app2.hostname.com gets 444), but that may not be an option for some servers hosting multiple websites.
