You might get better mileage out of an Asus Eee PC, which is similar to the 
XO, but more for adults than children.  The upside of getting an XO is that 
you're buying one for a child too.

In my opinion, these flash-based subnotebooks are not even remotely worth it 
for someone who wants to actually _use_ them, as opposed to play with them.  
It's not that hard to find a cheap notebook that actually has a decent screen 
and a hard disk that can actually store a useful amount of data.  The only 
real reason for these devices to exist is to be used in places where hard 
disks are a liability and power is scarce.  As far as I'm aware, Philly 
doesn't have those kind of problems.
