Re: [PLUG] Quick non-Dell computer quotes?

I'd like to get some "real" competitive quotes for a desktop system.

I already have 3 Dell quotes, all coming in around $1000 (+/- $25),
and that just seems too dang high for nothing all that special.

I'm honestly rather tired of Dell's crap, and would like to have a
real shot at getting a better vendor. This is for life-cycle replacement
of about 60-ish desktops (for 2 labs and some kiosks).

I got tired of Dell a while ago. You might look at these two, who actually sell Linux on the box:

system76.com (Ubuntu only)
zareason.com (Ubuntu and others, can't find the list right now)

I have about 4 System76 machines and they are all pretty good. My perception is they tend to be a little pricier though. I haven't tried ZAReason yet, but they look good and I've heard a lot of good things.

I'm not quite seeing apples-to-apples specs, but you might look at:
http://zareason.com/shop/Limbo-4110.html

I thought ZAReason sold machines with Suse on them, but that's not coming up in the picker. I suspect you'll re-image them anyway though...

As others have pointed out though, the sticker for that price point, with those specs seems to be the monitor.

Good luck,
JP

"Microsoft Tax" = the additional hardware & yearly fees for the add-on
software required to protect Windows from its own poorly designed and
implemented self, while the overhead incidentally flattens Moore's Law.
