Hi, everyone -- SAS has an open position for an IT Support Specialist for the Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing (which includes the Kelly Writers House). It's really a great position (I used to have it!), as it includes the opportunity to do some fun, innovative projects. If you know anyone who would be a good fit, it would be great if you could encourage them to apply. The reference number is 110430308, and I'm including the description below for convenience. Thanks so much! --Chris Description: The Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing (CPCW) is a hub for technological innovation and student engagement. Projects such as the PennSound digital poetry archive and daily webcasts from the Kelly Writers House make CPCW one of the most well-known and respected entities on Penn's campus. CPCW is looking for a forward-thinking IT Support Specialist to continue the Center's tradition of innovation. The successful candidate will provide computing support for a wide range of applications, including desktop support, media production and web applications. Desktop support involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting faculty and staff computers - mostly of Macintoshes. The position also maintains public-access and multi-user computers. Multimedia activities include creative use of audio/video recording, conferencing, and webcasting. Support for the CPCW Web presence is essential to the position. The IT Support Specialist will develop the Center's Web projects on a Linux server, primarily in HTML and CSS. S/he will support users of complex applications built in PHP and Drupal, and will aide in building social media strategies to promote Center activities. The IT Support Specialist acts as technical manager for the PennSound project-organizing and digitizing media files; training and supervising work-study students and content contributors; maintaining and upgrading production equipment. As a member of the School of Arts & Sciences Computing group, the IT Support Specialist will assure that all activities are consistent with institutional standards and will participate in School-wide technology initiatives. A key responsibility of the position is working with Center directors and staff to identify creative IT solutions to program needs. The successful candidate will listen well to the needs of the Center, and propose innovative, yet maintainable, methods of accomplishing those goals. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a very social environment, consisting of constant interaction with faculty, staff, students, and alumni. We are looking for someone creative, yet sensitive to the fact that systems should adhere to standards and be maintainable. This job is an excellent opportunity to blend creative and technical skills in a way that broadly benefits the University. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 2 to 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Experience supporting Mac OS X required; some knowledge of Linux and Windows 7 highly preferred. Familiarity with basic desktop hardware and maintenance required. Familiarity with popular web browsers and mail applications, basic computer networking concepts, basic Active Directory usage, terminal emulation software and anti-virus software preferred. Experience with HTML/CSS, website management and audio/video production required; experience with internet webcasting and streaming media highly preferred. Experience with FileMaker Pro desirable. Basic programming skills (PHP) preferred. Experience is content management systems, especially Drupal, highly desirable. Excellent customer service and spoken/written communication skills required; flexible work schedule will be required at times.
