[PLUG] [plug-announce] PLUG West, Mon, Aug 15, 2011: From POST to xhost - The Linux Boot Process, presented by Rich Freeman (7pm at FIS in Malvern)

The Philadelphia Area Linux Users Group (PLUG) cordially invites
you to a PLUG West meeting on Monday, May 16 at FIS in
Malvern, PA from 7-9 pm. See below for directions to the meeting
location.

This month, PLUG Central welcomes back Rich Freeman, who will be giving a
talk on the Linux boot process. Rich has previously given a version of
this presentation at PLUG Central.

Most people take for granted that when they flip the switch they will
be greeted by the operating system of their choosing, but few take the
time to understand how this happens. This talk will give a high-level
overview of the PC boot process, particularly for Linux-based systems.
Particular attention will be given to the historical evolution of the
boot process, and how its modular design lends itself to great
flexibility. Both newbies and seasoned veterans should find something
 to interest them.

Interested in Linux, BSD, and Free Software? Whether you're
already an enthusiast or want to learn more, come and join us!
PLUG meetings are free and open to everyone, and anyone who is
curious is invited to attend.

The meeting will be at the FIS office in Malvern, PA:
