There is (was, at least under BSD 4.2 and that era) a program called, curiously enough, "banner". It was meant to print out banners on a Teletype or line printer using fan-fold paper.

I wrote a script (awk?) to rotate the output for use on-line.

I'm traveling now, but I'll have access to the source for banner(1) and my script next week if you want them.
