I thought I'd mention a Windows app I use and recommend, Little Registry Cleaner. It used to come from SF as a straightforward install but now has multiple screens where you have to choose carefully to avoid getting adware/malware (including the Ask toolbar). Obviously do NOT choose a default install. At least you can still opt out.
