Re: [PLUG] Pinewood Derby software

Well, I was just inquiring about software for race day operations. Now I got this in my head.

At first I thought you were asking for CNC software to carve the cars. I'm sure someone's done that by now.

I'll have to look at it more tonight.

I had it on a debian install and was just playing with the webgui. It had dependencies for nginx (web server), sqlite (race DB), and php, so the server part is arch independent. The component that interacts with the track hardware might not be. The track and timer would be this if you are curious: http://www.derbymagic.com/

I have a year to experiment. Its fresh in my mind right now though. If I did this, I would need to implement something I could comfortably pass this on to someone else in a few years. Requiring them to compile new updates might hinder that.

On a pi you will need to build from source, just an FYI. Unless you can find arm .Deb packages.

It looks like MIT license.

Hello everyone. I've been absent from PLUG recently mostly because I've been putting my free time into volunteering for Cub Scouts.

We just had our Pinewood Derby and now I'm researching ideas for next year.

Does anyone have any experience with DerbyNet (http://jeffpiazza.github.io/derbynet/)? I'm trying to get an idea of how to set this up with a couple raspberry Pis.

I am thinking:
1x wireless AP
1x Pi as the server and kiosking to a overhead as the main display
1x Pi as a kiosk for checkin /  something else during the race
1x tablet/ipad/laptop for checkin / main race control

Thanks
Chad
