Re: [PLUG] encrypting files with expiration

In the message dated: Sat, 10 Feb 2018 15:24:32 -0500,
The pithy ruminations from Rita on
<[PLUG] encrypting files with expiration> were:
=> i would like to archive sensitive tax documents. i would like to store the
=> documents so you can't copy and paste -- just view once unlocked. set an
=> expiration time once unlocked. are there any tools like that?

Great idea in theory.

In practice, my experience with encryption is that the recipient of the
encrypted data is almost always the limiting factor. Outside of geeks
(hello, PLUG!), most people are incapable of dealing with anything
more sophisticated than an "encrypted" Word or Excel or ZIP file. Most
financial professionals either do terribly bad encryption (PDF of
tax returns "protected" by last 4 digits of taxpayer's SSN) or use a
proprietary site (ie., upload documents to their site via TLS, eliminating
the need for sending docs via email, but providing no encryption at-rest).

Before spending effort on this, make sure that the receipient will be able to read the files.

Oh, if you do find a good solution, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks,

Mark
