Pretty sure its direct (v4l bits).  I haven't used skype in a long time but I don't remember any issues.  I'm on Hangouts regularly and I have custom ffmpeg scripts that work fine.  I've even done some lower level parameter configurations (e.g. locking focus to infinity with uvcdynctrl) on the C910 connected to my RPi.

I would say they are both well supported by Linux in my experience.

Those look good.    Does the Logitec work directly with Cheese / Skype or are
any additional driver / kernel mod preloads necessary ?
