[PLUG] Snort questions

I installed snort and I am interested in viewing the patterns inside.  Can someone who already has expertise in this give me a pointer on where to view the patterns? Are they in a database or is there a text file with the patterns.  I am relatively new to snort and I was hoping someone could help me out.  Thanks for your help.
