WXPN isn't the only non-commercial station worth listening to, if you scan around the left end of the dial. Also noteworthy is that Princeton University has a commercial license at 103.3, but their primary/HD1 stream is non-commercial community radio. Pretty much all radio is also available streaming on the internet, so even though WRTI (90.1) broadcasts classical and Jazz all day, I usually listen to WQXR (NYC 3 live classical streams), and even though they suck 75% of the time my default station remains WFMU (East Orange).

Philly radio is a prime example. One group owns most of the stations. The
classic rock station plays the same songs by the same artists til the end of
days. There is one rock station. Music gets pre-empted for sports. Too many

You need to work your way down to the end of the dial. WXPN is still
awesome.
