[PLUG] Linux install-a-thon?

I've been reading about the upcoming push to Windows 11, and it seems that the existing glut of used computers in the world is going to continue to grow.  I hate to see all of that perfectly fine hardware go to waste, especially considering that much of it can be had for free or next-to-nothing.  I'd like to be able to put some of that hardware in the hands of people who can make use of it.

I was thinking that an install-a-thon could possibly be a lot of fun.  I'm imagining:

- taking in donated computers from local individuals and businesses.

- testing/upgrading (ie: swap out good RAM from non-working machines).

- install an easy-to-use version of Linux (I'd use Mint Cinnamon today).

- give them away to people.

I haven't found any indication that this group has ever done this before.  I think it could be a lot of fun, could introduce a lot of people to Linux, could save a whole lot of hardware from going into the landfill, and could put computers in hands of people who might not otherwise have a computer.

Any thoughts?

- Frank
