[PLUG] Save the date -- Elizabeth Joseph talking mainframes on July 8

Hi everyone,

Our July PLUG North meeting will be in-person at Skyswitch (the
company formerly known as Coredial). This month we have a special
guest speaker -- Elizabeth Joseph! Lyz leads the Open Source Office
for IBM Z and LinuxONE.

The meeting will be a week from Tuesday on July 8, and Lyz will be
talking about Linux on IBM mainframes.

======

"May the Source Be With You: Spreading Open Source from x86 to the Outer Rim"

Want to hear about open source software on mainframes again? I’m here to oblige!

Since my last talk at PLUG North back in 2023 we’ve seen dozens of traditionally Linux-based tools come to z/OS (and remain open source!), another release of the legendary IBM LinuxONE mainframe, and increased support for both Linux and z/OS on CI and development platforms like GitLab and GitHub. Emulation used by open source projects to cross-compile has also improved, with developers from IBM increasingly contributing code to QEMU and new developers external to IBM contributing to Unicorn, the CPU emulator framework.

I’ll also talk about how the continued rise of ARM and the era of GPUs has caused a new wave of organizations considering non-x86 architectures and generally other ways of looking at how they do computational work.
