Re: [PLUG] VPN Recommendation Wanted |
I tend to use Proton VPN. It has many endpoints to choose from like P2P and Bittorrenting servers, Tor over VPN (not the best choice for everyone, but it's an option if your opsec allows), tunneling through two countries for increased security ( I think with respect to deep packet inspection by nation states). They have servers that advertise better functionality with streaming services. I find that I do have to switch VPN servers when it comes to YouTube, which I tend to use to watch tutorials/networking news. YouTube does a LOT of captcha and outright IP blocking now, which is a bummer. My bias of course is that I pay for Proton's full suite of services, and I've enjoyed the simplicity of it. I worry about the Swiss government's interest in the broader EU digital privacy laws, and that may motivate me to diversify, rather than consolidate, the services I use. I also know someone who only used Amazon instances as their VPN, which may have better luck avoiding IP blocks, but at the cost of a more unique footprint. But I like that idea, or headscale, if only to avoid bigger name companies for the OpenID verification. -- Ben On Friday, August 1st, 2025 at 8:15 PM, Casey Bralla via plug <plug@lists.phillylinux.org> wrote: > > > Anybody have a good recommendation for a VPN service? > > ___________________________________________________________________________ > Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org > Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce > General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
