No. Raw mode in Linux is invoked using the -b switch for "binary" mode.
Undocumented?

More explicitly, I need to send PCL files to a PCL printer (HP laserJet
family) in "raw" mode. Does raw mode only exist in SCO?

Why not just check out what the Printing-HOWTO has to say? You dont
usually cat large binary files to the printer anyways.... or do you?
I dunno. I dont. I use some other program to talk to the printer...
