It's definately possible.  I still have RedHat hogging my 10G from
back when I switched over to Debian.  If you have an extra hard drive
it's an easy way to make the transition, but once you've switched, you
won't be using the RedHat partition/drive once.

Also, if you are using Debian, I strongly recommend upgrading to
Debian potato.  This is very easy to do, and slink is *very* out of
date.  Potato is very stable, and makes it much easier to keep up with
things.
