Dosemu runs fine under the Linux (we're using ext3) filesystem - FAT is not
required.

We even connect to an automounted smb share from a WinNT server and map it 
as a DOS drive without a hitch.  There is an option (-D, I believe) that 
makes your home directory into the D: drive.
