I've tried to get this (VNC via XDMCP) working on Redhat in the past
without luck. Since I recently switched to Mandrake 9.1, I figured I'd
give it another try, and I've gotten farther this time than before.
Here's where I am and where I am stuck.

- - 192.168.1.101 running Mandrake and the TightVNC client and server.
Most recent rpms.

- - 192.168.1.100 running WinXP and TightVNC.

- - Everything matches your instructions, except I chose resolutions of
1000x700 and 1250x1000 to reduce the "scroll factor" on 1024x768 and
1400x1050 resolution screens respectively.

- - In a terminal window if I type 'vncviewer localhost:0' or 'vncviewer
localhost:1', I get a nice gdm login screen. I can login and everthing
works perfectly.

- - 192.168.1.100 is running WinXP and TightVNC. In a terminal window if
I type 'vncviewer 192.168.1.100:0", I get the WinXP desktop.

- - In a terminal window if I type 'vncviewer 192.168.1.101:0' or
'vncviewer 192.168.1.101:1', I get "vncviewer: VNC server connection
closed".

- - On WinXP if I try to connect to 192.168.1.101, I get "Failed to
connect to listening VNC viewer" or nothing at all.

- - Everything worked before adding VNC to xinetd, viewing PC each from
the other.

I have no clue where to take it from here. As I said, this is farther
than I've gotten before. I couldn't find anything helpful when I
Googled the last time.
