Eric,
Just a note about NFS. It was hated because of the system overhead
required by the Server exporting the drive and to handle the mounts.
With today's servers this might not be an issue. On my old SCO boxes I
used to use Automount feature. I had a line in my scripts that would cd
to the mount before any files were transferred which "woke up" the
mount.  After 180 seconds (I believe that was the timeout) of none
activity to that mount it would drop the mount and wait for the next
time the system went to it. You didn't notice any delay.

I've heard admins gripe about nfs for years but I'd never tried it...

today!

1. Linux box runs Red Hat and exports a share called dropbox
2. Sun Blade 2500 mounts 192.168.100.5:/dropbox on mountpoint
/dropbox.

So, when the root user on the Sun saves a file to the /dropbox the
ownership
changes to 65534 (nobody) and the group to 65534 (nogroup)

It all *appears* to run normally so I'm at a loss to know why UID of 0
on
both
sides gets mis-matched or changed on the fly.
