Re: [PLUG] Looking for help with Ubuntu 14.04 on an HP 380 Gen8 server

Hi, John.

I highly recommend not running X on the server. Closing it has no
effect on the running VMs. As a bonus, not running X will free up
memory for your VMs.

Another option... Maybe Unity is crashing while starting up in the VNC
server. This can happen because VNC doesn't have all the same
extensions of a real X server. I would suggest trying an alternate
window manager as a quick fix. I recommend fluxbox as a light weight
and old-school wm.

Install the fluxbox package. Edit the existing ~/.vnc/xstartup script on
the server and make the command fluxbox the only uncommented line. Then
restart the VNC server.

Cheers.
