I have used generators in my parents home to supply power to the sump
pumps. The hard part was finding a unit that supported the spike
capacity of two sump pumps. After losing power for almost 12 hours, I
am considering a small scale one to keep the fridge going.

For that long, not often, except for today. However my subdivision
suffers from frequent short term power loss. I know I need to buy
something to keep the VOIP service up and running, but I had not spent
the time looking at it. My wife and I just had a baby, so I'm a bit
paranoid.
