Beowulf clusters

Any thoughts on where i can find more PVM info, of a more basic nature,
like a how-to, or more detailed information on how they work, and also
is there a scale size in which distributed processing tapers off ? like
for instance a two node cluster, or a four node cluster ? 

i've been to alot of linux related cluster computing sites, but is there
a doc or tutorial that explains the model on which they work ?( i
understand the bootp part and the networking involved for the most part
) i need to know more about the kernel internels related to distributed
computing. (doh ;-))

any help is greatly appreciated.
