Kernal Compile for RH5.1

Hi,  I am trying to compile/learn to compile the kernal on my RH5.1 box,  but
iI keep getting stupid errors.  I have been through alot of the books that I
have purchased but none of them seem to go into the topic in depth,
especially for Red Hat.  Can anyone help me?
