I'd reckon that it's a server end... did you try shelling to another
system and trying it? ftp.slackware.org is another site...
slackware in general isn't a great idea... I just finally got fed up
with it after 3 years of using it... it's not kept up-to-date enough
for my tastes, and therefore there are lots of problems with using
newer software unless you feel like compiling development libraries
and all that fun jazz :P
