Duties: Provide UNIX systems administration support for School of Arts &
Sciences electronic mail machine & for several SAS departmental UNIX servers;
perform UNIX systems programming & applications programming projects as
needed; support relational databases and web servers; provide backup support
for other SAS UNIX installations; perform UNIX systems administration,
networking, system tailoring, software installation & backups; coordinate
hardware repairs; coordinate ordering & installation of equipment; recommend &
track software & hardware; install upgrades; handle security; assist with
faculty computer equipment purchases on grants; perform technical consulting &
end user support.
Qualifications: Systems Programmer: BA/BS degree preferred; minimum 2 years
UNIX experience in system administration on multiple platforms or equivalent
combination of education, technical training & experience; in-depth knowledge
of UNIX system administration required; Sun Solaris expertise strongly
preferred; other platform experience highly desired, e.g. Linux, IRIX, AIX;
programming experience in C, Perl & Bourne Shell required; database (Oracle,
mysql) experience desirable; must have excellent interpersonal & communication
skills; ability to determine user needs and consult with users, programmers,
hardware experts & service personnel. Systems Programmer Sr: Same as above
except minimum 4 years experience.
