 find out what chip is in it - and check on a linux hardware compatibility
site, such as lhd.datapower.com.

don't worry about the windows drivers. the manufacturer includes this cause
windows has no/few drivers by default. linux on the other hand is usually
bundled with the driver modules for all hardware it supports - except
sometimes where driver support is provided by the manufacturer and is
proprietary - such as nVidia 3D support.


I would take your old disk out, put the new controller and disk in and boot
from the RH7.1 CDROM or a boot floppy. you won't get far into the install
before you'll find out if it finds your disk. 

give this a shot, you may be pleasantly surprised:)

That sounds like a great strategy, but I have a question.  The
controller 
setup seems to be Windows only and there is not a trace of that OS on 
this system.  How did you get around that problem?
