"Slight"? $44 one way on Amtrak; under $20 one way on SEPTA/NJT.
Less than half doesn't qualify as "slight". :-)
Septa is about $5 or $7 (I have a TransPass, so I forget how much straight fare is) to Trenton. NJT is $9.45 from Trenton to NYC.
