I think that you had three OS choices on the original PC. CP/M,
{MS,PC}-DOS, and some flavor of UNIX. (I don't think it was XENIX.)
DOS was by far the cheapest...
(And there was the built-in BASIC interpreter, but that came with every
machine.)
