I'd have to rewrite my readers.conf but I'm half tempted to ask you for a feed of plug.*.
Inn is a bit overkill for this, but it's free as compared to DNews (unless one is a student). Why don't you tell people how to do this?

Yeah, but I know that Russ Allbery and a couple of other people swear by it.
Slashdot as a gnus hieararchy is fairly neat, just as boring but without the
ads and slower than pure nntp.
On the third hand, INN when you just want a mail to news gateway is a bit like
having a big scarey angle grinder and seeing all things as stuff to be ground down.
Probably you should tell people who want to play with this how to set it up. I
haven't done that.
