Firstly, regarding the shy CDROM drive,
Fred suggested I post the contents of fstab:

Second, regarding my "error saving bookmarks file" here's the
bookmark.htm
file in /usr/lib/netscape/bookmark.htm (Actually, I renamed it to
bookmarkold.htm
but it still comes up in Netscape the same, with none of my additions
saved):
