I run with DirecTV DSL. I've been very happy with it. I have my static
ip address and I have had very little downtime at all.
As far as blocking ports, they do have some things filtered, but nothing
too severe in my mind. I know that Comcast and Bell Atlantic would be a
huge step down. Here's my nmap outside my firewall (and DirecTV) and
judge for yourself:
Port State Service
21/tcp open ftp
22/tcp open ssh
23/tcp open telnet
25/tcp open smtp
53/tcp open domain
80/tcp open http
113/tcp open auth
137/tcp filtered netbios-ns
138/tcp filtered netbios-dgm
139/tcp filtered netbios-ssn
194/tcp filtered irc
389/tcp filtered ldap
636/tcp filtered ldapssl
993/tcp open imaps
994/tcp filtered ircs
6346/tcp filtered gnutella
6699/tcp filtered napster
8888/tcp filtered sun-answerbook
