aptitude was the one I was looking for, thanks.

BTW, is it standard on most distros or is it an add on?

Well, you did say anyone :)  I was not at the meeting (work), but I would 
guess 'aptitude' or 'dselect'.

I prefer 'aptitude' personally.  Check out www.debianplanet.org as well for 
hints as to Debian related stuff.
