Assuming you have a PS/2 mouse, you may have better luck install gpm,
configuring X to use the /dev/gpmdata device to read mouse events repeated
by gpm, and telling gpm to use the "fups2" ("fucked up") or "fuimps2"
mouse protocol.
If you're not using a PS/2 mouse, perhaps you can tell us more about the
mouse you're using, and show us what you currently have in the InputDevice
sections of your XFree86 configuration?
