Always assume they know, except for medium to large businesses (ironically).
Everyone with a cell phone knows. And you can check your friends by paying
attention to whether they recognize you before you really say anything.
(Some people are good a pretending they don't; others like letting you know
that they know.)
By the way I mentioned the wrong dialing code for activating Anonymous Call
Block. *82 turns off caller ID block (so you can order a pizza or call a
cab).
