I'm also using a GeForce3 Ti 200, however my "screen" section has the
following additional line:
Section "Screen"
DefaultDepth 24
# ...
Perhaps try adding the "DefaultDepth" line? I also believe there's
an equivalent Xserver command line option to specify the depth.
