Re: [PLUG] Serial terminal shell login
|
I thought that it was crazy too but it's really not as
crazy as it sounds:
The computer has NO access to the internet - internal network only.
The users are constrained by a login script to run only one
application and then they exit.
They are not sophisticated users so breaking out to a shell prompt
means nothing to them... when you say "root" they say "tree".
None of this (except the lack of internet connectivity) is a
guarantee of anything but it's a situation they've lived with
for about 5 or 6 years with their old SCO box without any hassles.
I've told them that it's best to use passwords - so they want all
the passwords to be the same 7 character phrase.
Might as well have none :-P
I'm searching the PLUG archives as someone pointed out to me there
was a previous discussion on this very topic.
Thanks,
Eric
