rm -f /usr/bin/kscd
ln -s /dev/null /usr/bin/kscd

P.S. Stupid question, you *are* running KDE, not Gnome etc. right? :)
There's also hald (Hardware Abstraction Layer), although documentation in
RHEL is scarce to non-existent (hal RPM only has fstab-sync man page).
