I work primarily with churches - and you would be shocked at how human  
most are :-)

Words are only words -
I am from the camp that irrelevant is irreverent - so be as colloquial  
as the situation allows

I guess its a good sign that the job might be yours if they say

if you leave before 6 months we will kick your as**
