Interesting that you bring this up as I was just wondering about the
business viability of home market, VOIP-only providers these days. I
guess it depends on your ISP. I can only speak as a Verizon FiOS
customer. The package deals that big players, like Verizon are
pushing, are structured so that adding voice to an internet-only or
internet+tv package makes the voice component so cheap that it seemed
pointless to me to shop elsewhere for voice. Almost cheap enough, as
an add-on, to stop me from considering abandoning voice altogether.
I guess that wouldn't apply if your ISP doesn't offer one of these
bundles, but I wonder if this has something to do with the gradual
disappearance of Vonage tv advertising.
