Hi Walt,
I did the same thing and as a paid subscriber to protonmail I received
the following message from this message on the protonmail website.
Your emails cannot be decrypted. This may be due to a password reset.
Protonmail uses OpenPGP keys for sending and receiving mail between
protonmail users. When sending a message to any other account using
protonmail is sent unencrypted by default. Protonmail at the current
time does not support signing emails. If you use Gnome Evolution you
can send a clear-signed message.
This message looks like a Protonmail error where someone messed up their
configuration or tried to export their Protonmail key and did not follow
the instructions.
For GnuPG usage I personally do not use the generated Protonmail key pair.
