Thanks for well and regularly covering the meeting
"announcements"/reminders. :-)

Thanks too, on the - I presume now "expired" - hardware offer. Can't say
that I would've had use for it myself, but I can think of a likely person
or two that were at the meeting that probably could've used such hardware
(and probably also a 3rd person that would likely be more than willing to
suck up such an available hardware resource). Alas, I should've seen it
sooner and mentioned it ... but ... other folks are certainly fully capable
of reading the list. :-) And yes, many folks do actually read it. (I think
at least one person may have made mention of the hardware at the meeting
... but I think the mention might also have gotten (semi-)lost/burried
among all our "exciting" conversations and activity at the meeting - so
very possible the 2 there that might've possibly most benefited from such
hardware, might not have caught mention of it. And ... also good to see
that "these days" the hardware that does at least occasionally get given
away is pretty dang capable relatively to most current Linux distros -
notably we're up to the point where many of the common "free discards" /
giveaway systems (notably laptops) well run even the more resource
intensive current distros (e.g. requiring 64-bit and >= 2G RAM).  I myself
was actually fortunate enough last year, to pick up, for free, a good
condition used laptop - 64-bit, 8G RAM (okay, so thus far it's the best
free curb-side giveaway computer I've found yet ... but nice to see that
the "give-away" bar is some pretty capable hardware these days).

Guess that it's another BerkeleyLUG meetup that I'll

FWIW, there is someone offering to give away for
free a good, working laptop PC which has 4GB
RAM (max 8G? 16GB) and 64-bit Windows 7
currently installed. I looked it over this morning
and don't want/need that laptop myself. Only
things are, the top of the laptop's lid is
scratched (though the new owner can always
completely cover the lid with stickers ;-), the
optical drive is physically defective (though
the laptop boots up fine with a Linux liveUSB
stick), and the person offering it to me is
ready to give it to the next interested party if
I don't take it before 3pm

Best,
-A
