Re: BerkeleyLUG Meetup this Sunday 2021-10-10

Some notes on the meeting:.

I showed my new Pinetime smartwatch. And answered some questions. I thought that'd I could say more here.

So it has a small touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity, accelerometer, heart rate monitor.
CPU is a chip made by Nordic Semiconductor. It is basically a Bluetooth that is smart enough to be a microcontroller or CPU. It is used by some other watches too.
You use a connector app on your phone to send info back and forth via Bluetooth. The shop I use is open called Gadgetbridge.
Pinetime doesn't run Linux but another open source OS. Ships with open real time OS called Infinitime. Supposedly there is another supported OS called WaspOS.
First time config (date and time) was done via the phone app.
This watch was only about $25. So don't expect it to be like the high end Android or Apple watch. So no LTE modem and mic and speaker like the Apple watch.
Pinetime is a very interesting device. Battery lasts about 3 to 4 days. Phone app sends notifications. Step counter seems to work. Heart rate monitor jumps around so not very useful. The sensor is a green LED pulsing on the bottom against the skin with a detector next to it. Send like the OS should do a moving average, so why would the numbers be jumping around so much?

Ok I just wanted to send a quick note. I hope this is understandable. I am on mobile and trying to shoot this out before work.

In person will be at Blue door Cafe on Bancroft Ave.

Michael was right and it will start to be too cold for patio
meetings.

You may or may not want to mask up for the in person
meeting.  Best if you are fully vaccinated.

Personally I think I will start looking at getting a booster.

Hi all,
Timely reminder here of the first Berkeley Linux User Group meetup of the month as listed at https://berkeleylug.com/ and as per Michael P's writeup of the 'Meetings' schedule https://berkeleylug.com/meetings/
The virtual and in-person physical meetups start at 11:00am PDT this Sunday, October 10th, and go to 2:00pm or however late people want to participate.

Info of virtual meetup thru Jit.si Meet ...
https://meet.jit.si/BerkeleyLUG
Dial-in: +1.512.647.1431 PIN: 1036 1972 20#

From BerkeleyLUG's current 'Meetings' page (https://berkeleylug.com/meetings/ ), would assume unless/until decided otherwise that the in-person meetup is still at Caffe Strada's outdoor area, across the street from the South side of the Cal campus at the SW corner of Bancroft and College.
Caffe Strada's writeup on Yelp is https://www.yelp.com/biz/caffe-strada-berkeley

Whether virtually or in-person, hope to hear (and/or see) you at the meetup!
