Here's Tom's abstract: Mobile robotics is poised for explosive growth. This is driven in part by recent developments in low cost 3D imaging technology, embedded computing, algorithms for estimation and control, mobile user interfaces, and significant support/interest from large commercial organizations. The multi-disciplinary nature and the speed at which the field is progressing often makes mobile robotics seem daunting to newcomers. In this developer-focused talk, Tom will provide an overview of the field, point to some recent major milestones, survey current tools/approaches to building mobile robots, and provide real-world examples from his experience in commercializing the Automated Transport and Retrieval System (ATRS).
